題記で、スペイン／イタリアのＢＡＲ(バル）を、造語のＢＡＬと表記している沼津市と八王子市・めじろ台の店を非常に厳しく批判した(ずっと以前からしている）。

本件、知人で日本滞在後ＮＺへ、そして現在ポーランド滞在中の（日本語も堪能である）アメリカ人に、アメリカのスペイン／イタリアのＢＡＲはどう言う表現をしているか訊いてみた。

I think the difference is for a "tapas bar", where small dishes are served (like appetizer dishes), you should use バー, スナックバー, or タパスバー. It's difficult because for a bar that just serves alcohol, you will often see バル, like ワインバル。, but it also can just be without the "ru". It's really stylistic. If it were me, I would suggest that Trenta Tre Osteria is a better word for this restaurant. An Osteria オステリア - Wikipedia is sort of like a snack bar, where simple plates of food, usually small portions, are served.

I would say Osteria or Trattoria is a good way to identify an Italian snack/small plates bar, and Tapas is a good way to distinguish a Spanish small plates bar.

There is the problem about the spelling of bar.

They use bal instead of bar at some Japanese Spanish/Italian restaurant where they serve small plates with alcohol.

Of course, bal is a language making, but they want to distinguish from US bar where they drink alcohol.

How do US people distinguish US bar and Spanish/Italian bar?
